Did you know?
The English word "geyser" comes straight from Geysir, this valley's most famous hot spring. Its Icelandic name derives from the verb "geysa": to gush or rush forward.
SourceThe Great Geysir, the spring that gave geysers their name, has erupted only rarely since 1916. Its neighbour Strokkur does the reliable work now, sending water about 30 metres up roughly every 10 minutes.
