The troll who ran out of night
A local legend turns Hvítserkur’s strange outline into a troll caught by the morning sun.
According to local folklore, a troll from Strandir set out to silence the church bells at Þingeyrar. He did not complete his journey before sunrise. When daylight reached him, he turned to stone, leaving the shape now called Hvítserkur just off the Vatnsnes shore.
The sea stack is basalt shaped by wave erosion, but its silhouette invites other ways of seeing it: a creature leaning down toward the ocean, or a traveler stopped forever. Keep the legend in mind from the shoreline viewpoint and decide what shape you see. This is an explanation from folklore, not a geological account or a documented journey.
