Tour Description

The Husavik GeoSea Baths

The small town of Húsavík is renowned across Iceland for its amazing geothermal baths that have been enjoyed by residents and visitors for centuries. There lies an incredible geothermally heated sea-spa that was discovered in the middle of the 20th century by engineers who were looking for hot water to supply houses. Their drilling revealed geothermally heated seawater that could not be used due to its high mineral content.

Fortunately, they decided not to let it go to waste, transforming it into one of the finest spas in all of Iceland. Since then, residents have enjoyed the health benefits of bathing in mineral-rich, geothermally heated seawater. It is especially good for those with skin conditions, with things such as psoriasis having been cured by its magical waters.

The volcanically heated water at Geosea comes from two boreholes – with one located by an old cheese barrel and the other close to Húsavík harbor. The flow of water from the boreholes to the sea ensures that the water is completely hygienic, and no cleaning agents are required to maintain it. This makes it a totally organic and natural sea spa that everyone is bound to enjoy.

The GeoSea baths are surrounded by gorgeous natural scenery, including an imperious mountain range to the west, the crystalline Skjálfandi Bay that lies underneath dramatic craggy cliffs and the distant Arctic Circle, which can be seen on the horizon. Soaking in warm seawater to this incredible natural backdrop is a relaxing and invigorating experience that everyone is bound to enjoy.

GeoSea Restaurant

The GeoSea restaurant is ideal for people who want to enjoy a delicious Icelandic meal – before, after or in between their magical spa experience. It has a modern terrace that allows visitors to gaze out across the horizon on sunny days, while the interior is comfortable and cozy. It serves a variety of traditional Icelandic staples, including freshly baked bread, ham, cheese and the local favorite hot spring bread with smoked arctic char. The restaurant also serves drinks and light refreshments throughout the day, ensuring that everyone enjoys their time there.
